     Head Coach Este Lara was a highly-decorated 4x State Open place-winner as a high school wrestler. In high school he was a New England Finalist and captured state titles in Freestyle and Folkstyle. He went on to be awarded academic and athletic scholarships to matriculate at American International College. In his time there he rose to a top-eight ranking among wrestlers in his weight class in 2010-11. Este completed 4 seasons as an assistant coach for the Trinity College wrestling team after previously serving as an assistant at NCAA Division II American International College for a year.

     Lara, who graduated from AIC with a bachelor's degree in liberal studies and a minor in psychology, started for four years on the Yellowjacket squad and captained the team as a senior in 2011-12. Lara earned his bronze coaching certification to become an assistant coach for the Connecticut Freestyle wrestling team in the summer of 2010. He organized summer wrestling camps at the Bristol Boys and Girls Club for three consecutive summers. He has also served as a board member for Beat the Streets CT, organized seminars with Olympic athletes, and taught at local wrestling clubs and dojos. Ascension Athletics looks forward to having him join our coaching staff as he brings world-class caliber coaching, and technical analysis to the sport of wrestling and the combat sports world.
